Faraday Predictive

World leading portable condition assessment system

Training Courses

“If you think education is expensive, try ignorance.”  (Attributed to Derek Bok, 1978, President of Harvard University and others)

“A little learning is a dangerous thing;
drink deep, or taste not the Pierian spring: there shallow draughts intoxicate the brain, and drinking largely sobers us again.”
(Alexander Pope, An Essay on Criticism, 1709)

In Greek mythology, the Pierian Spring of Macedonia was sacred to the Muses as the metaphorical source of knowledge of art and science.  These days we recognise that achieving excellence in machine care also requires a blend of art and science.  So in our small way, we try to replicate Pope’s exhortation to drink deeply from the Pierian Spring – the Well of Knowledge.  We want you to have sufficient knowledge that you make sound (“sober”) decisions based on understanding of the information available to you, rather than making a poor decision based on only a shallow depth of knowledge.

We like our customers to understand the capabilities of their Faraday Predictive Condition Monitoring systems like the portable P100 and permanently installed S200 so you can obtain the full value from them, and have confidence in making decisions based on the information they provide.

Whether you have our portable or our fixed systems, we encourage you to immerse yourself in training, both hands-on in the use of the equipment itself, and “brain-on” in the diagnostic interpretation process.

Our standard training is a two-day course, that covers both sides – the hands-on and the brain-on, the art and the science.

The objectives of our standard two-day course include:

  • Giving existing customers and prospective customers of Portable or Installed Faraday Predictive systems confidence using Faraday Predictive MBVI systems;
  • Understanding the wider business benefits of CM and CBM;
  • How to understand and make maximum benefit from the data and information being captured by plant technicians using the P100 kit;
  • Understanding the signal capture process, so you can talk sensibly with your plant staff, and don’t feel at a disadvantage to them; and
  • Becoming familiar with the in-depth diagnostic process, and how to interpret the data.

Topics covered include:

  • Maintenance Strategy Overview – why CBM?
  • MBVI technology: what it is, what it does, how it does it
  • Taking readings hands on from a real motor or generator using the P100 or S200 kit
  • Fault diagnostic concepts – characteristic frequencies, amplitude trending
  • Data formats – waveform shapes in the time domain, spectral shapes in the frequency domain,
  • Signal processing, including Fast Fourier Transforms (FFT), and the inter-relationships between sample rate and maximum spectral frequency, and between sample length and spectral resolution.
  • Electric motor basics – 3 phase supply, synchronous motors, induction motors, slip, rotor asymmetry, failure modes.
  • Alternative signals available for analysis – raw currents, residual currents, phase currents, transformed currents etc.
  • Hands-on diagnostics using real-world data
  • How to gain the benefit – action planning and communication

Training courses can either be public courses, or can be delivered in-house to your own team. These in-house courses can be tailored to meet your own specific requirements, to ensure that the training matches the equipment you deal with and the sorts of issues you typically encounter, so that you can maximise the benefit from the training.

How to get started
